FlyFreely Platform Setup Guide
This guide will help you get set up and complete your first mission using the FlyFreely platform. It is recommended that you follow it through in sequence, however if you have already covered some of the steps, feel free to simply skip ahead to the next sections! As a new FlyFreely user, the main steps you’ll need to take are:
- Enter your Personnel, RPAs and Batteries into the system.
- Configure your authorities and upload the relevant documents.
- Plan your first mission using the FlyFreely Office App
- Complete and finalise your mission (Field App + Office App)

Steps 1 & 2 should be completed by your ‘organisation administrator’. Steps to be taken by all Remote Pilots and other operational staff are listed further down this page. Click here to skip the admin processes.
Step 1: Personnel, RPAs and Batteries
Firstly, let’s add any other personnel in your organisation that will require access to the FlyFreely platform. These might be Remote Pilots, Chief Remote Pilot, Maintenance people, Administrators etc. For a full list of user roles, click here.
Once all personnel have been added, it’s time to add your organisation’s RPAs to the system.
And once you’ve completed your RPAs, it’s time to add your flight batteries and battery sets. To learn more about Flight Battery Sets and how they differ from Batteries, click here.
Step 2: Configure Authorities and Documents
Before we get started on this step, here is a useful article on understanding Authorities.
You will need to consider what type of authorities you require and which types you already have. Common organisation-level authorities include:
- RPA Operator Certificate (ReOC)
- Operation of RPA at Night
- Company ARN
- Any organisation-specific inductions or training courses
Lastly, make sure that any relevant personnel have made their compliance declarations.
Note: It is worth getting each Remote Pilot and Planner in your organisation to go through the following steps either individually or together, to ensure that each relevant person has an understanding of the software.
Step 3: Plan your first Mission in the Office App
Fully featured planning takes place in the FlyFreely Office App (for instructions on simple mission planning in the Field App, click here). It is useful to practice running through the process first by creating a ‘dummy mission’. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with the mission planning features of the platform without recording a live mission.
Step 4: Complete and Finalise your Mission
This step is usually where you go out and fly your mission, recording it in the FlyFreely Field App. If you have created a ‘dummy mission’ in the previous step, you will be able to use this to simulate the mission and get to know the Field App before heading out on a real mission.
Once you’ve completed your mission, it’s time to finalise it. This step ensures the integrity of your record keeping and shows that the mission has been signed off by both the Remote Pilot in Command and the Chief Remote Pilot.
